Applying for the Registration Cum Membership Certificate (RCMC) is a crucial step for exporters in India. The RCMC serves as proof of registration with Export Promotion Councils or Commodity Boards and is often required to avail benefits under various export promotion schemes. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has simplified this process by enabling online applications through its portal. This guide walks you through the entire process of applying for RCMC online on the DGFT portal, making it easier and faster to get your certificate.

What is RCMC and Why It Matters

RCMC stands for Registration Cum Membership Certificate. It is issued by Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) or Commodity Boards to exporters registered with them. This certificate acts as a gateway to various export incentives and schemes offered by the government. Without an RCMC, exporters cannot claim benefits like duty drawback, export promotion capital goods scheme, or participate in export-related government programs.

Having an RCMC also builds credibility with buyers and financial institutions, as it confirms your status as a recognized exporter. The DGFT portal now allows exporters to apply for or renew their RCMC online, eliminating the need for physical visits and paperwork.

Preparing to Apply for RCMC Online

Before starting your application on the DGFT portal, gather the following documents and information to ensure a smooth process:

  • Company details: Legal name, address, and contact information.

  • PAN card: Permanent Account Number of the company or individual.

  • IEC code: Import Export Code issued by DGFT.

  • Bank details: Cancelled cheque or bank statement for verification.

  • Registration certificate: Proof of registration with the relevant Export Promotion Council or Commodity Board.

  • Digital signature: DSC (Digital Signature Certificate) may be required for certain applications.

Having these ready will help you complete the application without interruptions.

Step 1: Register or Log In to the DGFT Portal

Visit the official DGFT website at https://www.dgft.gov.in. If you are a new user, click on the “Register” button to create an account by providing your email ID, mobile number, and other basic details. Existing users can simply log in using their credentials.

Once logged in, navigate to the “Services” section and select “Apply for RCMC.”

Step 2: Fill in the Application Form

The RCMC application form on the DGFT portal is divided into sections. Fill in each section carefully:

  • Applicant details: Enter your company name, IEC code, PAN, and contact details.

  • Export Promotion Council details: Select the relevant EPC or Commodity Board from the dropdown list.

  • Product details: Specify the products or services you export.

  • Bank details: Provide your bank account information for verification.

  • Upload documents: Attach scanned copies of your registration certificate, PAN card, IEC, and any other required documents.

Double-check all entries for accuracy before proceeding.

Step 3: Review and Submit the Application

After completing the form, review all the information and uploaded documents. The portal allows you to preview the application before submission. Make sure everything is correct to avoid delays.

Once satisfied, submit the application. You will receive an Application Reference Number (ARN) for tracking purposes.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

The DGFT portal will prompt you to pay the applicable fee for the RCMC application. Payment can be made online using net banking, credit/debit cards, or UPI. Keep the payment receipt for your records.

Step 5: Track Your Application Status

You can track the status of your RCMC application using the ARN on the DGFT portal. The processing time varies but typically takes 7 to 10 working days. If additional information or documents are required, you will be notified via email or SMS.

Tips for a Successful RCMC Application

  • Ensure document clarity: Upload clear and legible scanned copies to avoid rejection.

  • Use correct product codes: Match your export products with the correct HS codes.

  • Keep your IEC active: An inactive IEC can delay or block your application.

  • Respond promptly: If DGFT requests additional information, respond quickly to avoid delays.

  • Renew on time: RCMC certificates usually have a validity period; renew before expiry to continue enjoying benefits.

What Happens After You Receive Your RCMC

Once your application is approved, you will receive the RCMC certificate digitally through the DGFT portal. Download and save this certificate securely. You can use it to apply for export incentives, participate in government schemes, and prove your exporter status to clients and banks.

If you need to update any details or renew the certificate, you can do so through the same DGFT portal.
